Featured vol. X

Journal Entry: Mon Jan 23, 2012, 1:19 PM
Featuring faves - Volume X

For my tenth feature, I decided that I would leave it up to you guys, to decide the art showcased. I din't really anticipate the result of that decision, but I'll get back to that.

Featured are:

arumdamour

Both suggestions are awesome pieces of art, and I took the opportunity to fave them both! Not because they were suggested, but because they are great works both of them.

Now, to address a far more serious topic. I have just short of 300 watchers. Two decided to promote art, that doesn't belong to themselves. Two. Swell.

I joined dA almost 8 years ago (the first two years under another nick). Back then, dA was all about supporting eachother in our efforts to become better artists. We were also interested in eachothers shoutouts, journals and rants, and we actually responded to them. Imagine that.

I issued a Journal, encouraging all of you to promote a fellow artist. Not yourself, but someone else. Less than one percent of my watchers found that offer attractive.

To be honest guys; that's simply majestically lame.

If we want dA to be an art COMMUNITY, we have to do better. Every time I place ten comments, I get one in return. But that is at least ten percent, and it's okay with me. But it's not less than one percent.

dA is not all about leaning back and think 'Hey, no wonder they faved my piece, cuz both it and I are awesome!'. It's also about giving back to those who gives. THAT is a community. Otherwise, dA will turn into a GALLERY. Nothing more. And I am sad to say, that I think dA is going down that drain.

Guys...prove me wrong please. I ask all of you, to create a Journal like the one I did. Urge your watchers to suggest a piece of art, made by someone else but themselves.

And most importantly, spread the word;

PROMOTE YOUR FELLOW ARTIST

Featuring faves - Volume X...almost

Update 21-01-12: I'm surprised that so few people wants to promote their favourite artists, friends and watchers. But okay - so be it. I think my Featured Vol. X journal will feature a word or two on that topic. I will issue that on Monday //Per

I am planning for my tenth feature journal, and I was thinking: 'I featured a lot of art that I love...I featured art of my beloved watchers... but I never featured art, loved by my beloved watchers'.

So here goes buddies!!!

I will feature your beloved pick of loved art. Here are the rules:

1. Must be a piece of art, NOT done by you
2. You cannot be the artist behind your suggestion
3. Featuring your own work is not allowed

Feel free to Note me if you are confused about the rules. As if...

So in other words; pick a piece of art that you love, from someone you love!

Any line of art is welcomed, but no porn please.

Place a link to your entry in your reply to this journal.

Christmas Message

Journal Entry: Tue Dec 20, 2011, 1:00 PM
Early Celebration

To start with, I am not a Christian. Sounds weird, as I was baptised, confirmed and married in a Church. But as I grew older, I realized that my faith changed course. I decided to become a pagan. A believer in the ancient Gods of the Nordic mythology.

Now...as a pagan, I look forward to tomorrow, December 21st. This date is important, because it marks the turning of the planetary cycle; the return of the sun, and thus summer and new harvests. And this date, is THE most important date of the year for people like me.

I will celebrate Christmas like everyone else, munching pork and duck at my parents place. But December 21st represents a more significant turningpoint, than December 25th does to me. I still love the Christmas mood though.

That said, I want to wish you all a very, merry Christmas. I hope that you will find tranquility and peace, and that the coming year will bring you happiness.

Love you guys. Years and peace  :santa:

I dinosaur

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 18, 2011, 10:56 AM
A rant on dA manners

Since I returned to dA, there is one thing that has puzzled me. Back in the days where I was really active here, we would encourage and acknowledge eachother, as well as thanking eachother for faves and features.

I still can't imagine receiving a fave or a feature, without thanking the submitter. To me, it is the most obvious thing of this world; if someone does something nice to me, I say 'thank you'.

But I don't see that anymore, except from the dinosaurs inhere like arumdamour and badman22, plus (in my world newcomers) J-u-d-a-s, BeKarloff, babsartcreations, and Rafaelll90

Did the dA mindset change, so that it is no longer needed to say thank you for a fave or a feature? I have faved and featured a large number of artworks, and 95% didn't care to thank me. So my question to you is:

Is it no longer needed to be polite on dA, and respect your fellow deviants?

Halloween Journal

Journal Entry: Mon Oct 31, 2011, 12:04 PM
Submitted art

Some time ago I issued a journal, encouraging my watchers to shamelessly promote their scary art, with the promise to feature it in my journal. I am sad to say, that I only received one. But on the other hand, I am glad to say: 'What a piece of art I received!'

ADamselinDesign really did it on this piece of art, and she even made her nine year old nephew 'suffer'! :evillaugh:

Beyond that, ADamselinDesign supplies us with a before-and-after feature, which indicates the efforts and talent put into her work.

Even before I received this suggestion for my Halloween Journal, I faved it. Had it been unknown to me, I woulkd STILL fave it today. Great work Casey!

Now...can I be allowed some shameless self-promotion? :D

Further to these, I hope that you will browse my gallery for more scares :evillaugh:

I wish you an evil Halloween

Suggest your favorite sub

My good buddy J-u-d-a-s has a really good idea, and it is supporting the community spirit; ask your watchers to suggest their favorite artwork of their own, and post that work on your journal.

I will copy-cat that idea, and I hope you'll all suggest your deviations for my next Journal. That includes you Paul! :D

So folks - place your fav work on this journal by thumb or link, and it will be featured in my next journal :)

Manipublending

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 12, 2011, 11:53 AM
Or the art of blending pictures

Some time back, I started to get interested in photomanipulation. Photography just got to me somehow...dunno. I guess I just needed something different. Photography is about catching the moment. Photomanipulation is about catching an imagination, probably. A fantasy maybe.

I took some stock images, and blended them into eachother, using PhotoShop - layers and effects...just playing around.

And thats when it struck me; I am not doing photomanipulations! I am doing photoblending! Manipulating a photo, is about altering an image. In the process of blending pictures, I admit to be guilty of editing the shots I work with, but at the end of the day, all I do is mix some shots together. I am now an official picture bartender!

I don't like to overdo it...a few shots blended together is enough. Sometimes a few words makes a stronger statement, than an entire novel.

So far, my photoblend-portfolio looks like this - hope you like it :-)
